Taking a leap into the unknown can be very thrilling. Picking an adventure tour in a place that doesn’t feature in many guide books or tourist articles means that the holidaymaker can have the best of both worlds, visiting somewhere brand new that is unspoiled and undiscovered. Here are some of the best “off the beaten track” destinations for the ultimate in 
adventure.
China’s Muoto County
Considered to be the root of Tibet’s Holy Land, this remote county is not reachable by road, only by foot. To do so, the holidaymaker must cross the frozen wastes of the Himalayas, home of the fabled Yeti, before making their way across a two hundred foot long footbridge. It is possibly one of the most remote places in the world and is cut off completely from all of its neighbouring townships. Once there, a remarkable and awe inspiring visit can begin, taking in the lush, unspoiled landscapes. It’s a real, true feeling of getting away from it all; but not for the faint hearted.
Australia’s Macquarie Island
In political terms this is part of Australia, but geographically it lies between New Zealand and Antarctica. It’s full time home to a mere twenty scientists who choose to study the particular biological phenomena that live there, the beautifully named Ophiolite, a rock that shows there was a
former ocean basin in the vicinity. Visitors to the island must pay for permit and usually come here as part of a longer Antarctic adventure tour that takes in other small islands, perhaps over a longer period of travel.
Holidaymakers who come here will be able to view the rich array of flora and fauna, including a royal penguin rookery.
Australia’s Cape York Peninsula
A perfect destination for any adventure tour and boasts the fact that it is one of the most undeveloped places not just in Australia, but in the world, making it perfect for keen adventurers to make their way to and round. Many places on the island are too dangerous to get to by car, jeep or bicycle and therefore can only be viewed during a helicopter trip. It is home to some eighteen thousand indigenous aboriginal tribes, but the peninsula provides the perfect out of the way destination for hiking, camping and bird watching galore. There are many far flung places that have yet to become tourist haunts, that remain well kept secrets to the lucky few who know and love them. Taking a holiday or brief visit can make a real change from the usual run of the mill destinations and can be a wonderful learning curve whether travelling alone or for a family holiday. For some, the thrill of having to really work hard and travel extensively to get to wherever they are going is as much part of the fun as anything else. The discoveries that can be made once there are just a big bonus.
