Travelling by air has brought extra restrictions in baggage allowance so all these things need to be factored in before leaving home. Choosing at least 5 essential home goods everyday travellers might need will make the journey, and stay more pleasant and can save money.

GPS Phones

GPS mobile phones are light and easy to use and can come with city mapping, an app with over 470 cities worldwide with walking directions and you can also follow walking tours. Terrain maps can be downloaded for free and foreign language phrase apps are also available. If you don’t want to take a phone or hand held GPS then a good guidebook is needed. However, they can be cumbersome, photo copies of certain pages would be lighter to carry and preserve the original guide book.

Hygiene

Personal-hygiene items can be purchased abroad but let’s be honest we all have our favourites from home and not all brands can be bought abroad taking into consideration specific products like deodorants for sensitive skin or personal medications.

Secure Money

There are two kinds of money bags the ones that scream mug me I’m a loaded tourist or unobtrusive fitted under the clothes. These may seem awkward but having cash on you, a passport and other important documents give peace of mind and if your bags do get stolen it would be a godsend.

Adapters

Plug adapters and voltage converters are an important item to pack if electronic equipment will also be taken: camera chargers, hair appliances and cell phones. The appliance will have written on it whether or not it is dual voltage. If so only a plug adapter is needed otherwise a voltage reducer will be required.

A Small Bag

A man-bag/handbag, tote or camera size bag for use every day when out and about. Great for bottles of water, cameras, cell phones and snacks these bags sometime come with the larger suitcase as a set.

Finally packing light is sound advice and remember the most important thing to take with you is common sense. As long as you have clothes on your back, money in your pocket and the document along with your passport to travel you can usually pick the main essentials up from local stores or shops. Where ever you go in the world brand and niche shops will always provide you with a taste or a products from home in one way shape or form.
