When planning your holiday around the UK.

For tourists arriving in the United Kingdom, it may seem obvious to visit the landmarks, such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, and Buckingham Palace.

And yes, while these are amazing landmarks and provide amazing experiences you have to remember that the UK is far bigger than just the city of London.

London is famed for having the oldest and greatest underground network system, the London Underground (or the ‘tube’ as locals call it) hosts millions of commuters on a daily basis with rush hour coming between 8-9am and 5-7PM when workers return home.

However the travel network outside of London is also world class. When planning your holiday to the UK, remember to leave a week or so for those landmarks outside of the UK. In fact, planning your journey around the UK can be extremely easy, the National Rail website makes booking incredibly easy with just a few clicks for where you want to go. You can even book in advance for a cheaper ticket and pick it up at the station.

Just a few hours outside of London you can visit places like Bath in Somerset, famous for its Bath Spas. Bath was made famous by the Romans around 40AD who built fantastic hot springs, baths and spas around the city. Now obviously a lot of these are long gone, but you can still go and check out the remains. Bath is also a very historical and old town, with plenty of rich history and architecture to see.

If history and architecture is is still your cup of tea, then Oxford is definitely a place you would want to visit being only 50 miles north of London. Made famous by its rich traditions as well as one of the worlds’ best and oldest university (Oxford University) the city itself provides a fascinating view into old English life. When you are there make sure to check out the Church of St Mary the Virgin, the birthplace of the University and the largest Parish church in the Oxford.  Records show that the church has stood in the centre of Oxford for nearly a thousand years.

Finally, for those who want a bit of Londons’ hussle and bussle without the hectic queues and the mad shop rushes, Manchester is also a great city to visit. Manchester is one the UKs largest populated cities, and boasts one of the worlds’ best supported soccer teams in Manchester United. Tourists even have the option to visit the stadium during the day and look at the sporting history created in the last century within the stadium. The team usually play during a Saturday and if you are a keen sporting fan you can try and pick up some tickets on their website.
