Planning your summer festivities

OK, so in winter the only festivities that occupied your mind were Christmas and New Year. But now they’ve been and gone you can start thinking about how you’re going to keep yourself entertained for the rest of the year.

Camping with your mates in a field with thousands of other people and waking up to a cider and your favourite bands is a great way to spend the summer Yes; festivals are getting bigger and bigger each year. So, it’s time to get planning.

It’s not like the days of Woodstock where you could just rock up in your campervan without a ticket and get involved. Glastonbury sold out ages ago and early bird tickets are already on sale for this summer’s biggest events.

So before the summer comes you should look for competitive home insurance quotes online to extend it to cover your personal possessions (yes it still counts when you’re in a tent), and then you need to decide where you’re going and get booking. Here’s our guide to those festivals to look out for in 2013.

Bestival

This may be the last big date in the 2013 summer festival calendar, but it’s certainly top of our list. Previous headliners have included Stevie Wonder, Bjork, Basement Jaxx and the Beastie Boys, but it’s the atmosphere of this festival that makes it stand out from the rest. Held at the Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight, this ever growing festival is full of quirks and randomness everywhere. There’s even a fancy dress parade on the Saturday. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something a little different.

Glastonbury

Everyone knows all about Glastonbury. Have you got a ticket? No, us neither.

One Love

This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we just can’t get enough of the relaxed atmosphere and chilled people at this boutique festival. Created in 2008 as the UK’s 30th anniversary of Bob Marley’s famous concert of the same name, One Love is going from strength to strength and is now the UK’s premier reggae and dub music event. Held just outside London, it’s all done in the spirit of Bob.

But if you can’t wait until the summer, there are a few winter festivals on the horizon you may as well get involved in.

Snowbombing

OK, so you may not be in a tent for this winter music festival in Austria, but it still counts. The surroundings are stunning with forests and glaciers in abundance, as well as some killer skiing and snowboarding. Foreign festivals may have been the big thing in 2012, but to continue to stay ahead of the game this year it’s all about foreign winter festivals. The music isn’t too bad here either with previous headliners including The Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim and De la Soul. There are also igloo raves and forest jam sessions.
