Glorious and lively Gumbet

Turkey has enjoyed somewhat of a tourism boom in recent years, thanks to the huge number of cheap deals heading east.

I’ve travelled around Turkey and my favourite part of this huge, diverse country has to be the beautiful south coast. Just one of these resorts is Gumbet, a lively town based on a hill, surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to cosmopolitan Bodrum.

In my opinion, Gumbet is a perfect blend for those wanting a lively holiday, but close to other places to explore. The nearby countryside is perfect for a jeep safari day out, and a day in Bodrum is a must do, with its beautiful castle and the famous Museum of Underwater Archaeology.

Flights head to Turkey regularly throughout summer, and Bodrum Airport is a relatively short transfer to Gumbet. To make travel plans go without a hitch, which let’s face it, is a blessing on a busy travel day, I’d highly recommending pre-booking airport parking, with Gatwick Airport parking great value for money when heading out of the capital. If you’re flying a little more locally, Luton Airport parking is also a fantastic option with great deals available. I wouldn’t travel without airport parking these days, thanks to the fantastic convenience it provides.

To me, summer means one thing – days on the beach. Gumbet is blessed with a long sandy beach with many bars running along its length, which means the perfect opportunity for a refreshment or three in the often scorching sun.

There are many opportunities for excursions, often best purchased from street vendors, as you can haggle your price a little more and often come away with a bargain. A boat trip is always a must for me, and a jeep safari for something a little different. The mud baths at Dalyan are a great day out, although a bus journey away which can be lengthy when it’s hot.

If you’re into shopping, you need to brush up on your haggling skills. Gumbet itself has a great market on a Sunday, and you’ll come away with some great souvenirs for loved ones back home. Alternatively, Bodrum has many shops to explore, and a large bazaar for more haggling.

It’s night time when Gumbet really comes into its own, with a large selection of bars and clubs to party the night away. Before you hit the nightlife scene, I’d really recommend trying some delicious Turkish cuisine. You’ll find the traditional Turkish restaurants away from the main beach strip, and it’s here you’ll fill your belly for relatively little money – a definite must do!

A holiday to Turkey generally won’t break the bank, and costs can be cut even further by taking advantage of great value airport extras, such as airport parking. Heathrow parking is a great option and will add a world of convenience to travel days.

Turkey is my favourite place in the world, hands down, and resorts like Gumbet make summer fun.
