A Grand Adventure
What would I do with a grand?
What wouldn’t I do more like…? You see, I’ve never been the type of person to save money. There’s always going to be some designer shirt or fancy meal to throw my saving plan out of the window. And who am I kidding? Even a trip to the pub is enough to tempt me; as long as there’s a few quid burning a hole in my pocket, I’m never one to decline an invitation.
However, despite this type of spending delivering instant gratification, I’ve recently started to realise that material possessions aren’t the be all and end all. Oh man, I must be getting old…
More than ever, experiences are what seem to matter. As somebody who has never travelled for longer than two weeks at a time (and by travel, I mean fly to one location and stay there), I find myself desperate to scratch the travel itch, before it turns into a full-blown bug.
However, with one thousand pounds in my pocket, I wouldn’t go flying off to any far flung locations just yet. Despite most young people desperate to escape to more exotic lands, I’ve always been fascinated by our own fair country. With a grand to spend, I’d head off on an epic rail and road adventure, visiting various towns and cities throughout the UK, sampling the architecture, nature, food, culture… pretty much everything which makes Britain Great.
As someone who works in and lives near London, I would firstly head off from the capital - southwards towards Brighton. Hearing tales of its vibrant, colourful and creative nature; it’s no wonder that since the mid eighteenth century Brighton has been thought of fondly as “London by the Sea”. From there, I’d head westwards to Bath: a World Heritage Site and one of England’s most visited tourist destinations. From the magnificence of the Abbey, to the stylish Georgian townhouses lining the streets, it’s said to be one of our most awe-inspiring cities.
Afterwards, I’d explore the rest of Somerset, probably indulging in some famous cheese and cider; before heading down to Cornwall and Devon, where I’d take in a surf lesson or two and explore the nooks and crannies of the coast.
Heading northwards, the city of York would be my next destination. With its quaint cobbled streets and museums and galleries, it’d offer up a bit of culture (as well as a few cosy watering holes to sample). Travelling north-west, the Lake District would be my next bet. With arguably the most beautiful countryside in England at my feet, I’d take the opportunity to pull on my hiking boots and climb a mountain. As the most popular ones for hikers, either Great Gable or Scafell would undoubtedly allow for some unforgettable views.
Where to next? Well, with only a handful of locations under my belt and a whole load more to go, I’d carry on as far as one thousand pounds would take me. Although I’m certain the rest of the world has endless things waiting to offer me, for now, why not start in my own back yard? After all, there’s no place quite like home…
Thanks so much for Money Super Market for this great opportunity!
