Dublin: A Little Closer to Home

When planning a holiday abroad I am normally thinking of sun, sea, relaxing and as a lover of exploring, a few historic attractions so Ireland never really came to mind. I needed a trip away but couldn’t afford to jet off on a back packing adventure into exotic terrain so I decided to hope on the ferry over to visit our Irish neighbours.

Once there it was hard to leave! The people were so welcoming and the rich history and heritage available to explore is truly amazing. To this day I still find myself heading over there as often as possible to recreate the incredible experience I had from my previous trip there.

A place I enjoy going back to time and time again when in Ireland, is of course the capital, Dublin. This city offers a range of cultural and unforgettable experiences for all parties. Car hire in Dublin I feel is best, partly due to not owning a car myself, but also so there are no limits to what I can do while I am there and cant truly enjoy and explore this great city.

Personally, I feel that no trip to Dublin or Ireland is complete until have learnt all there is to know about Ireland’s famous alcoholic beverage, Guinness. You can walk around the factory and take in all of the knowledge and history about this infamous drink, Finishing off the day by making your way to the Gravity Bar to enjoying a fresh pint of Guinness looking over spectacular views of the city is best. You can even try pouring your own pint and see whether you are up to the Guinness standard of pint pouring!

Keeping to the alcoholic theme, another place high up on the list is the Jameson’s Whiskey Distillery. Like the Guinness factory, you are invited to look around and take the educational tour available to learn all about one of my favourite whiskeys. At the end of the tour you can pop to the in-house pub to settle your cravings and treat yourself to a straight whiskey or a cheeky whiskey cocktail.

They are know for their drink and we have all experienced a skin full on St Patrick’s Day, but Dublin has a lot more to offer. If your car journey takes you there, then a trip to the Dublin Castle is a must. This historic castle played a huge part in Irelands history and is home to spectacular State Apartments, which are said to be the most prestigious in the country and are open for guided tours.

As I have mentioned, hiring a car in Ireland and exploring the country this way is really how to do it. From experience, you will come across many places and experiences that you wouldn’t necessarily have come across sticking to the usual routes and destinations.
