Just 95 km south west of the city of Melbourne, visitors will find the Torquay surf spot. This beach break destination located on the west side of Melbourne is ideal for surfers of all skill levels to enjoy. From beginners to international surfing professionals, there is something for everyone to enjoy here. The Torquay area even hosts the popular event known as the Rip Curl Pro. Within the area, Bells Beach is by far the most challenging while Fisherman’s Beach is a great spot for beginners. Phillip IslandrelPhillip Island is one of the most well-known and popular surfing destinations within the Melbourne area. This Melbourne East spot is known for its big breaks that can be found at the Woolamai beach area. With large swells and rip tides, this surf spot is not for the faint of heart and is recommended for more advanced and professional surfers. Beginners may opt to visit Smith’s Beach on Phillip Island for calmer waves and easier waves to surf.
