The Best Places for a Staycation in the UK

Having a holiday in the UK is often frowned upon by those who love sun, sea and sand of warmer climates, but the UK can offer all these things and more. Exploring the motherland is easy, doesn’t require a passport and needs little planning. The only thing that needs planning is finding the right hotels in the UK and then it’s time to hit the road.

Brighton

The sunny southern seaside town is simply full to the brim with things to do. From shopping in the historic Lanes, to hanging out on the pier, the town is one of the most vibrant and inclusive in the UK. Brighton is also home to hundreds of pubs, meaning even the most experienced traveller is spoilt for choice when it comes to the sheer range of tipples on offer. Other sights to see in Brighton include the Royal Pavilion, modelled after the Taj Mahal, and the ruins of the West Pier.

Lake District

For those who want an active break, the Lake District has loads of walking routes and hiking trails on offer through the hilly landscape. The mountainous views make a picturesque backdrop, and it really does make for a relaxing and serene break. In addition to the mountains, the forest areas are home to wild ponies, and the elusive red squirrel; great for nature lovers. Highlights include Hill Top Farm which was Beatrix Potter’s home and the inspiration for many of her books, plus Dove Cottage, the home of poet William Wordsworth.

St Andrews

Situated on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, St Andrews is perhaps best known for its prestigious university, and as such has a lively nightlife and a lot going on if visiting during term time. The town is the sunniest and driest area of Scotland, and it has a range of cycling trails for those who like an active holiday. In addition to this, the sandy beaches have perfect wind conditions for kite flying.#

Cornwall

This south westerly county in England has some of the sunniest weather and the picturesque sandy beaches are popular with surfers and sunbathers alike. There’s a whole host of things to do here, and travellers can enjoy laying low in a rental cottage in the countryside, or enjoy the range of sights to see in larger towns like Truro and St Ives. Be sure to see the open air Minack Theatre, the amazing Eden Project and of course pick up a Cornish pasty or two.
