Salisbury

One of Englands Cathedral towns, Salisbury is a great place to visit whether on a night out, a shopping trip or just to see the history.

A lot of the cafes and pubs are notably old, with thick beams and Tudor-esque exteriors it’s hard not to wonder what the buildings were once upon a time used for – with the ghost stories so often attached to such buildings it’s easy to get see Salisbury as the archaic town it once was.

Being actually quite close to Heathrow, travellers from abroad are able to visit this beaufiful city even commuting early from Heathrow Airport hotels in order to enjoy the day that little bit more.

Alternatively, a close airport could be Gatwick, with Gatwick Hotels with Airporthotels.com being super cheap and convenient!

The Cathedral is located in the city centre and is easily noticeable from the high street. The spire can even been seen looming up while you sit in places such as The Eclipse Inn, making a Summers day with Pimms even more scenic.

On the subject of pubs, The Railway, situated cleverly by the station, is a quiet pub often frequented by just one maybe two people at a time. The drinks are cheap, there is a pool table and an outside seating area. It’s run by just one woman who always takes the time to sit and talk to you if needs be and well worth a visit for the taste of a true English pub.

Although the shops in Salisbury can likely be found in other towns and cities around England, there are numerous antique stores to be found amongst the River Island’s and the Gregg’s. The town comes across as a combination between Southampton and Winchester – a regular high street intermingled with hidden antique stores and quaint pubs. It’s a city that deserves a little bit of digging to truly appreciate it.

The Cathedral itself operates popular “tower tours” from just £10 for adults. The spire on is the tallest in Britain and after 332 steps (broken up into easy stages) you can see the ancient medieval scaffolding, as well as a view of the city and surrounding countryside from 225 feet above the ground.

Salisbury is an ancient town that deserves a second glance, so whether you’re looking at it from the top of the Cathedral, or exploring its alleyways and hidden gems, take your time, and take my advice about the pubs and the hotels with airporthotels.com!
