4 Must See Places in Brisbane

Brisbane is the third most populated city in Australia. If you are taking a vacation in the land Down Under, you should not miss staying here for a long weekend before heading up to Cairn or down to Sydney.

Although it has all the advantages of a large city, it still retains its small town feeling. The locals are friendly and do not give off the impression of big-city snobs. While there, make sure you take in the top attractions this growing city has to offer. You can also check out some of the remote city tours.

Queensland Cultural Centre

Whether you enjoy walking through history or admiring different works of art, you can do both when you go to the Queensland Cultural Centre. As home to the Queensland Museum and Queensland Art Gallery, this is the attraction to get your fill of culture. It is also home to one of the best theatres in Brisbane. The Lyric Theatre is part of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre where large productions, musical, dance and opera are performed regularly. For smaller shows, lectures or intimate theatre productions, the Cremorne Theatre is available. There is always something happening in the cultural centre that will appeal to everyone in your party.

Kangaroo Point

Just across the river from Brisbane central business district, Kangaroo point is a lovely park and recreation area. It is a very popular place to spend an afternoon for a picnic or go rock climbing. If you are feeling adventurous, the area has many places to go abseiling or rappelling. The high cliffs were formed when the lava rock rhyolite lava were mined. This is a great place to get a view of the city.

Brisbane Forest Park

To enjoy nature and wildlife head out to Brisbane Forest Park and take a tour of the animal sanctuary to get an up-close look at kangaroos and other native wildlife while hiking along part of the D’Aguilar Mountain Range. There are also a variety of enclosures and building for different animals. A walk about through the aviary and aquarium is a must. There is no better place to find out about the animals that inhabit Australia.

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens

Sitting along the Brisbane River and surrounded by historic sites such as Queensland Parliament House, Queensland University of Technology and the Old Government House, The Botanic Gardens are lush, beautiful and have been there since 1855. Take the time to enjoy lunch at the Garden Café, which at one point was the housing accommodation for the garden curator.

When you visit Brisbane, do not worry about transportation to the different attractions. The CityCat Catamaran is an attraction all itself. Instead of taking buses or taxis to get around, these boats travel up and down the Brisbane River and even go right through the centre of town. It is the best and fastest way to get out to Kangaroo Point. If you are a sports fan, see what games are playing at Lang Park’s “Cauldron.” If you have never watched rugby before, you will be in for a surprise.
