Exploring the vast diversity the United States has to offer
As a traveller, really getting to understand the US with its diversity can prove quite a challenge. Of course for visitors spending a city getaway in the bigger cities like New York, Miami or San Francisco, the urban life is one-of-a-kind, making visits a unique experience.
In saying that though, for travelers who are traveling for the sake of understanding the nation they’re in, really getting to know the world’s 4th biggest country along with its culture and people may require a bit more than a city trip.
With its 50 states, this young country has experienced numerous waves of immigration which have characterized the USA. With new migrants more inclined to stay in larger cities, influences from other cultures are more recognizable in these areas. To add to this, individual states and regions have their own culture, history and mentality. Nobody would deny that the southern states offer a different experience to the north. Similarly, the difference between rural America and its urban centers are just as big as well. But such variety is not limited to the cultural differences between regions and states but also its geographical landscapes. Picture the classic Western films of Arizona and Texas deserts to the idyllic beaches of Florida and California and the seemingly untouched state of Alaska. Of course, with such a big country, the place really offers a unique mix of landscapes and geographical conditions.
America by car and migrating
Like anywhere, getting to know a place takes time and sometimes means participating in an overseas experience, (whether it is for work of study). With a gap year for work in the US, the opportunity might not be so easy unless you’re looking into winning a green card, (more information on what that is, on green-card.com). For those that are more inclined on a holiday, a lot of visitors and locals recommend an extended road trip. Seeing how big the United States is, it might not be the most environmentally friendly option. Although on the other hand, staying cooped on a bus for 16 hours isn’t a friendly option on the body either.
Depending on the time constraints, there are a variety of great routes such as the Pacific Coast drive for example. Compared to just spending a few days in one of the big cities, this form of slow travel offers a unique chance to discover smaller towns. Quite a few of the travelers that get to know the country on such a trip are impressed with its interesting sights which can sometimes be an eye-opener by providing a fresh perspective of the USA.
